Opportunities
for You
MEALS FROM THE HEARTLAND
REMEMBER WE NEED TO PRAY, GIVE & SERVE.
PRAY- that God’s people would arise to help those in need,
and that He would touch each of our hearts to know what we
must do to respond to this need.
GIVE to assist with the costs to purchase the raw ingredients
to make the meals and transportation of the meals to those
in need.
SERVE by signing up to package meals September 3 - 5 at Hy-Vee
Hall in Des Moines.
You may also serve by volunteering to stock tables with food
products, supervise the packagers, make boxes, or register
volunteers. There are many ways to be involved.

Oakwood UMC is actively involved in many mission projects
through out the world with other United Methodist connectional
churches. Oakwood has always been a Rainbow Covenant Church.
Just a few missions that we support are: Missionaries through
out the world The United Methodist Committee on Relief Children
& Family Urban Ministries Las Americas Bidwell Riverside
Women at the Well (women’s’ prison in Mitchellville) The Iowa/
Nigeria Project Special Offerings
Always-A-Need Bins
There are many ‘ongoing missions’ supported by Oakwood. The
need never goes away. For these missions we have assigned bins in the Mission Center. Feel free to add your donations at
any time to our ‘Always-A-Need’ bins. Sometimes when we clean
out closets or run across past gifts we haven’t used it is
a good time to think of some one who would love to have what
you are about to throw away. Take advantage of coupons &
great sales at the supermarket to add non-perishable items.
Food Pantry – food items
are given to those in need who stop by the church looking
for assistance. Additional items are given to the local food
pantry.
Homeless Shelter – shampoo,
conditioner, cold medicines, soap, razors, sanitary pads/tampons,
used wash cloths & towels are just a few of the items
needed. Partial containers are accepted as well as hotel soaps
& shampoos. These items are delivered to the Central Iowa
Shelter for distribution to the homeless.
Women at the Well -
Stepping Out In Style - Full bottles of shampoo, conditioner,
soap, bath & toiletry items are collected for ‘after care’
packages for women being released from the women’s prison
in Mitchellville.(Have you receive a toiletry set that just
isn’t your flavor?)
Bidwell Riverside –
Is a United Methodist mission on the southeast side. Bidwell
provides clothing, paper products, food & many other items
to underserved adults & children. |
